Ontario has more plumbing companies, more searches and more financing ads than anywhere else in Canada. In the Greater Toronto Area especially, homeowners have seen "financing available" so often that it barely registers. That raises the bar. A financing message works in Ontario when it is specific, honest and placed exactly where a homeowner is weighing a large job.
The market and the buyers
Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham and Vaughan form one dense, expensive market with high search costs. Ottawa, Hamilton and London each support strong regional companies. Beyond them, dozens of mid-sized cities and the North have fewer competitors and more loyal customers.
Ontario's older urban housing brings a lot of the large jobs where financing matters: replacing aging water service lines, sewer laterals and galvanized or older supply piping, plus basement waterproofing and backwater valve work after heavy storms. Many of these buyers are rental-property owners or multi-generational households, which slows decisions and makes quote follow-up important.
Climate and seasonality
Southern Ontario winters are cold but moderated by the Great Lakes; the North has longer, harsher heating seasons. In 2023, 58% of Ontario households heated mainly with natural gas, 18% with electricity and 4% with propane (Statistics Canada). Gas water heaters and their replacement are a major category, and propane customers in rural areas form their own segment.
Seasonal plan: water heater and boiler replacement through winter, basement flooding and backwater protection after spring thaw and summer storms, planned repipes and renovation rough-ins from spring to autumn.
Regulators to know
Linked for reference only:
- The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) registers fuels contractors; only registered contractors using certified gas technicians may do fuels-related work, such as gas water heater installs.
- Skilled Trades Ontario handles trade certification and apprenticeship.
- Consumer Protection Ontario covers consumer rights on contracts and home-service sales.
- The WSIB covers workplace insurance.
If you sell door to door or in customers' homes, read Consumer Protection Ontario's guidance on contracts and cancellation rights before designing a campaign, and keep financing out of any pitch that relies on pressure.
Programs relevant to financing marketing
As of October 2026, Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas run the Home Renovation Savings Program, with rebates on cold-climate heat pumps, smart thermostats, insulation and similar upgrades. Save on Energy's Energy Affordability Program offers free upgrades for income-eligible households. Ontario had no federal CGHAP agreement as of our check.
These are mostly heating and envelope programs, not plumbing rebates. If your company also does hydronic or heat pump work, a linked, dated mention can help. On a water heater or repipe page, leave them out rather than imply a rebate that doesn't apply.
How we'd approach Ontario
- Make your financing message specific: named lender (if allowed), "subject to approval", how to apply, on every high-ticket job page. Our financing pages service does this.
- Target search ads narrowly in the GTA by job type and postal area, because broad campaigns burn budget fast.
- In mid-sized cities, lean on Google Business Profile and reviews, with the financing note on your profile services.
- Avoid any campaign that resembles pressure-based in-home sales.
- Prove the value with funnel reporting.
Standing out in a crowded market
A useful exercise: search for your three biggest job types in your own city and read the first five plumbing websites. Note how each one describes financing. Most will show a badge or a vague line. A page that names the lender (where allowed), explains in two sentences how to apply, says plainly that the lender decides, and answers "what if I'm declined?" will look more trustworthy than any of them. That is the bar we write to. It costs nothing extra, and it suits Ontario homeowners who have seen too many vague offers.

Frequently asked questions
Lots of Ontario plumbers already advertise financing. How do we stand out?
By being clearer. Name the lender where allowed, say plainly that approval is the lender's decision, explain how to apply, and put the message on the specific job pages people land on. Vague "financing available" badges are everywhere and say very little.
Do gas water heater installs have special rules in Ontario?
Yes. Fuels-related work in Ontario is limited to TSSA-registered fuels contractors using certified gas technicians. Don't advertise gas work your company isn't registered to do.
Can I mention Save on Energy programs?
Only where a program truly covers the job. Most current Save on Energy rebates target heat pumps, insulation and similar upgrades rather than standard plumbing.
